1.5 Importing Assignments
There is no way to directly import an assignment from a Public or Commons Course page. Unless you want to use all of the assignments in a Public or Commons course, you need to add them individually. This requires knowing which collection the assignment can be found in (My Courses, Public, or Commons), the name of the course, and the name of the assignment. The previous page (Importing Courses) describes how to search courses and view assignments. It also has details if you are interested in importing all assignments from a course.
How to import an assignment:
- Take note of which collection the course is in, the course name, and the assignment name.
- Go to the "My Courses" area and click on the course in which you want to import the assignment.
- Click the "Import Assignment" button and select the names you identified in step one from the drop down menu.
- Select the Import Level: By default this brings in the assignment properties and questions. If you choose "Just the Properties" it will import the parameters of the assignment (type of assignment [formative, summative], assignment group, etc.) but none of the questions.
- Select the LMS properties. By default it is set to "Automatic," meaning that if the course is connected to Canvas through the LTI or API and the question is auto-graded, the student submission will immediately be transferred to the Canvas course. If grading will be manual (and delayed), select Manual.
- Click the Yes, Import Assignment! button.
Note that like importing a course, importing an assignment will not allow you to edit the assignment or its questions (beyond renaming, reordering, or deleting). You can, however, add new questions to assignment, reorder questions, and rename questions and assignments. Instructions for this are covered in the next Module: ADAPT for Intermediate Users.
