2.6 Bringing it All Together: Building Your Course

How you will build your course will depend on what you want it to contain, i.e., original, imported, and/or cloned assignments and assessments.

To review, an ADAPT course has three levels:

  1. The course itself
  2. At least one assignment
  3. At least one assessment/question per assignment

Step 1: Create Your New ADAPT Course Shell

Go to My Courses and select New Course. If you have questions about creating a new course, see 2.1 Creating a New Course.

Step 2: Add Assignments

Once your course has been created, open it and add assignments either by selecting New Assignment or Import Assignment. You can see or edit your course properties by clicking on Course Properties. If you have questions about creating a new assignment, see 2.3 Creating a New Assignment. If you have questions about importing an assignment, see 1.5 Importing Assignments. For more about course properties, see 2.2 Course Properties.

Step 3: Add Assessments to Assignments

Open an assignment and use existing questions by selecting Add Questions or create new questions by selecting New Question. For detailed instructions, see 1.6 Importing Questions, 2.4 Creating Questions/Assessments, and 2.5 Cloning Questions Created by Others.

Step 4: Connect with Canvas or Share Access Code

If you are happy with the organization and content of your assessment(s), assignment(s), and course properties, link your ADAPT course to your Canvas course or, if not using Canvas, send the access code to your students. For questions about linking an ADAPT course to a Canvas course, see 1.7 Connecting ADAPT to Canvas via LTI and API.

To send the course to your students so they can complete it in ADAPT (instead of Canvas), open the course, select Course Properties, go to Sections, and copy the access code. Then you just need to send it to your students. Your students will need to have an ADAPT account to access the course.

Step 5: Check Auto-Graded Assignments or Manually Grade Submissions

If you connected your ADAPT course to Canvas, you will grade the assignments in Canvas as you would an assignment created in Canvas. Auto-graded assignments will be automatically graded and you will have to manually grade any assignments that are not auto-graded. If you did not connect your ADAPT course to Canvas, the same will apply, but it's done in ADAPT. For instructions, see How to Create a Student ADAPT Account.

See 2.7 Grading in ADAPT for detailed instructions.
