Importing an existing course will bring over all of its assignments and their respective questions. Importing a course will not allow you to edit existing assignments or questions (beyond renaming, reordering, or deleting). You can, however, add new assignments to existing courses and new questions to existing assignments. If you are interested in importing individual assignments or questions (the only way to edit a question) from an existing course, see 1.5 Importing Assignments or 1.6 Importing Questions.
You can search for courses in 3 places, all of which can be accessed under the blue dashboard button:
The quickest way to import an existing course is to go to your "My Courses" page and clicking on the "Import Course" button.
A pop up window will appear where you can search for a course by its name or the instructor's name.
When you find a course you want to import:
Click on the name of the course
By default, "Import as a Beta Course" is set to "no," i.e., the course will be imported as an "Alpha" course. This will keep your course separate from the original course so that any changes made to the original course by the author (e.g., adding, editing, or deleting assignments/questions) will NOT automatically push through to your course. If you prefer that changes made to the original course are pushed through to your course, you can change the radial selection to "yes" to import it as a Beta course. This means you will not be able to make any changes to the course content; however, you can edit some aspects, such as due dates and names.
Auto-release means you can view student statistics when an assignment is shown or scores are released on a date set in the course. Select the option for "use existing release dates" to keep the set dates or "clear existing release dates" to select your own. You can change this later in the course settings.
Click the blue Yes, import course! button to start the import. The course and all its assignments will be added to your "My Courses."
