Preparing for Success

New to Online Learning?

If you are new to online learning, you may need extra support getting oriented to the online learning environment -- and the same is true for many of your own students! This is where online readiness resources play a valuable role.

Free Online Readiness Tutorials

OEI LogoWhether this is your first course as an online student, or you're simply thinking about your future students, there are a few resources I'd like you to know about. The Online Education Initiative (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (OEI) has produced a series of interactive tutorials designed specifically to support online learners, including tutorials on time management, online reading skills, and online communication. The tutorials are offered in a variety of modalities, including interactive videos, audio, and text, so students can choose the modality that works best for them.

I'd like you to complete the interactive video tutorial, Introduction to Online Learning (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (it's about 12 minutes), and then take a close look at the entire series of Online Student Readiness Tutorials (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. You might be tempted to skip this tutorial, but I strongly suggest you experience what your students will experience. Give it try--for them! To start the video, select the play button, below, or if you prefer you may read (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. or listen (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. to the tutorial.

If you like these tutorials, I am happy to share! The tutorials are part of the OEI's set of resources that are available to all CCC faculty, staff, and students. The tutorials are FREE to use, and do not require you to be part of the OEI course exchange or for your college to have adopted Canvas. These tutorials cover a wide range of topics online students may find helpful, as well as some additional interactive tools.
