Creationism and Evolution
Overview:
Richard Dawkins, a evolutionary biologist, argues that the idea of a creator God is unnecessary. He says that design arises from a long, gradual evolutionary process. In the "Additional Considerations" section of the reading, Michael Behe, a biochemist, argues that there are certain biological systems which are irreducibly complex. These systems, he says, couldn't have evolved piecemeal and stand as evidence against evolution. When reading this week's article, think about the examples used in context with the larger debate between creationists and evolutionary theorists.
Objectives:
After this module, you should be able to:
- Explain Dawkins's case against God.
- Analyze the arguments put forth by Dawkins.
- Debate the ideas presented by Dawkins.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the creation and evolution debate.
- Communicate ideas in the video and reading to your classmates.
