Ethical Theory

Overview:

The last discussion board concerns ethical theory. What is the right thing to do, what counts as a good person, and how should I live - these are some of the questions raised in this area of philosophy. Another big issue, one that Ayn Rand, is whether morality is objective or relative to something else. While reading this week's article, ask yourself whether you think that there are moral facts "out there" in the world or whether is morality merely a matter of opinion.

Objectives:

After this module, you should be able to:

  • Explain moral relativism and objectivism.
  • Analyze the arguments put forth by Rand.
  • Debate the ideas presented by Rand.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and objections to Rand's moral theory.
  • Communicate ideas in the video and reading to your classmates.
