Effectively Add and Preserve Alternative Descriptions for Images

Best Practices for Image Descriptions added through Ally for Canvas

Ally uses a combination of methods to help remediate issues related to accessibility.  In order to provide faculty members with a more convenient and flexible way to improve accessibility in their course - Ally offers a method to add alt text directly from the Files tool. As a result, the alt text is stored in Ally's database and when the image is added to a page Ally continues to retain that information. When individuals view the content, Ally ensures that all the appropriate alt text tags are visible and are available.

It is important to note that Ally does not currently make changes to the underlying HTML stored in the editor when alt text is added to an image through the Files tool.  The same applies to marking an image as decorative.
