What is the Online Student Support Hub Guide?

California Community Colleges, California Virtual Campus-Online Education Initiative

In the online learning environment access to student support services is critically important to student success. As such, the key to the California Virtual Campus-Online Education Initiative's (CVC-OEI) success has been its holistic approach to online learning. The CVC-OEI has created an organized ecosystem, whereby California community colleges, are working together to ensure all students have access to online student support tools. The benefit of the deliberate focus placed on making student support services available in the online environment is suggested by a marked reduction in the student achievement gap between face-to-face and online courses, from 14 to 4 percent in a space of 5 years (CCCCO Distance Education Report 2017).

The next phase of our work is to influence and encourage effective practices for implementing online support ecosystems at California Community colleges. Through our efforts colleges can expand and innovate their distance education programs by implementing student support hubs. This guide will help colleges establish an online student support hub within Canvas which is easily accessible to all students.
