Why is Online Learner Readiness Important?
Online education has expanded access to high-quality education to the 2.1 million students currently served by California Community Colleges. Indeed, nearly one-third of these students has taken an online course in the past academic year. Though the differences in success have narrowed in recent years, there still exists a significant achievement gap between face-to-face and online learning for CCC students (2017 CCCCO Distance Education Report). Among the most promising online education success strategies are Online Learner Readiness programs such as the Online Student Readiness Tutorials, first developed by CVC in 2016.
The Online Student Readiness Tutorials support current and prospective online learners by addressing factors related to preparedness and success in online learning by providing supplemental information and instruction.
