Module Five - Regulations - Introduction and Learning Outcomes
Introduction
Regulations affecting distance education and, therefore, Distance Education Coordinators (DECs) are numerous. There are federal regulations, state regulations, accreditation requirements, and even the Chancellor's Office has policies specifically affecting distance education. Because there are so many rules to be mindful of, it useful to divide these requirements into four groups:
- accessibility,
- distance education in general,
- copyright, and
- accreditation.

- explain what it means for a course to be accessible and identify tool for reviewing online materials for accessibility.
- describe and explain the value of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
- discuss the different types of digital media and how to make them accessible.
- explain the issues surrounding student authentication, last day of attendance, and correspondence Vs distance education.
- discuss the laws relating to the use of copyrighted material as they relate to distance education.
- discuss the accreditation standards that are relevant to distance education.
