Local Distance Education Policies

Common policies, procedures, and standards that many colleges adopt for their distance education programs include:

  • Distance Education program mission statement.
  • Regular effective contact policy (Please refer to the "Regulations Affecting Distance Education" section in Module 5, for more information. This is not an optional policy.)
  • Policies pertaining to faculty compensation, intellectual property rights, and class size,
  • Authentication standards. (Please refer to the "Regulations Affecting Distance Education" section in Module 5, for more information.)
  • Academic honesty policy. (Although not just for DE courses, however some colleges require DE students to accept it before being given access to their online course.)
  • Technology use policy. (Although not just for DE courses, however some colleges require DE students to accept it before given access to their online course.)
