Key factors to keep in mind when considering the support of distance education students include the need to ensure that:
- budget, faculty, student services, and facilities support appropriate commitment to online students.
- all necessary steps are taken to retain students in online courses.
- the college's policies and procedures are appropriate and adequate from the standpoint of the online students.
- the college implements strategies and practices to involve online students as part of an academic community.
- the learning needs of students enrolled in DE courses are identified, addressed, and linked to educational objectives and learning outcomes, particularly within the context of the institution’s definition of itself.
