Current OER/ZTC Options

There is currently no fully developed OER text-equivalent for this course. The following are some additional resources that faculty can use to teach the course. Some may be OER and others may copyrighted resources faculty can use to teach the course with no associated costs for digital access (often referred to a Zero Textbook Cost, or ZTC).

The California Department of Education has the following publications (they are copyrighted, but permission has been given through College of the Canyons for them to be used in the development of OER):

Educational Learning Theories This OER textbook by Molly Zhour and David Brown covers the theories of Piaget, Bandura, Vygotsky, Kohlberg, Dewey, Bronfenbrenner, Eriksen, Gardner, Bloom, and Maslow. It is licensed CC BY NC SA 4.0
Introduction to Childhood Studies This OER textbook by Dr. Susan Eliason supports a speaking-intensive course that introduces students to key concepts (including: historical and contemporary definitions of childhood, rights and responsibilities during childhood, influences of family, society, and culture, and the impact of the environment, education, economy, and political conditions) in the study of childhood from multidisciplinary perspectives. It is licensed CC BY NC SA 4.0
Foundations and Current Issues of Early Childhood Education This wikibook addresses some current issues in early childhood education (including: the achievement gap, early literacy, differentiated instruction, kindergarten readiness, multicultural issues, No Child Left Behind, Reggio Emilia, schools' role in health, and universal preschool). It is licensed CC BY SA 3.0.
