Introduction

Welcome to the ASCCC OERI Resource Page for Mathematics. This space is intended to provide Math faculty with a collection of resources that have been subject to a peer-review process and/or that have been selected for use by faculty in the California community colleges. In addition to providing you with access to resources, this is also a place to interact with your colleagues.

The content of this site is generally organized by subject (C-ID Descriptors). As an example, the page for College Algebra for STEM (MATH 151) lists OER textbooks and highlights recommended course templates for online homework and other course materials.

The MyOpenMath OER platform is a flexible online homework system specifically designed for delivering math exercises as an intuitive and accessible Canvas App so students don't need to be aware of it other than that they do their homework through Canvas.

A great source of accessible math videos is James Sousa's collection of over 5000 captioned videos.

Current Status of the Discipline

The Math discipline was surveyed in late 2018 about OER. When respondents were asked for the "primary reason for not using OER". The most common responses were "I’ve looked - but the available resources don’t meet my needs" or "I don’t know enough about OER to have seriously considered its use."

Open Textbook Store - It calls itself a “Store,” but they are not a publisher. Open TextBook Store provides freely and openly available math textbooks created - or used - by Washington CTC (Community and Technical Colleges) faculty.
OpenStax Math peer-reviewed textbooks with commercial-quality printing. Instructor resources available.
