Introduction to OER for Psychology
Introduction
Welcome to the ASCCC OERI Resource Page for Psychology. This space is intended to provide faculty in the discipline with a collection of resources that have been subject to a peer-review process and/or that have been selected for use by faculty in the California community colleges. In addition to providing you with access to resources, this is also a place to interact with your colleagues.
Current Status of the Discipline
Psychology was one of the ASCCC's Cohort 1 disciplines. Cohort 1 disciplines were surveyed late in the Fall 2018 term. The survey closed on January 14, 2019. Of the 65 unique faculty who responded, 3 were from the UC and 1 was from CSU. None of these university faculty were using OER in lieu of a traditional text. Twenty-six (~43%) of the community college faculty were using OER in lieu of a text. Five of the CCC faculty indicated that they were not aware of OER and and 7 indicated "I have heard of OER, but don’t know it." As the number of respondents was relatively small, more data collection may be needed to ensure that the status of the discipline as reflected here is complete. In order to assess the use of texts for courses other then introduction to psychology (C-ID PSY 110), additional data collection will be needed.
