In order to be successful in this course, you'll need to be comfortable with online learning and with Canvas. The information in the following two sections of this page will help you:
Develop skills for online learning (and help you prepare your students)
Teach you basic skills for using Canvas
Throughout the course you'll find some information in tabbed pages. Be sure to view the information on all tabs--sometimes we've saved the best for last! If you are viewing a page with tabs from a mobile device, the content may render as separate sections.
If you are new to online learning, you may need extra support getting oriented to the online learning environment -- and the same is true for many of your own students! This is where online readiness resources play a valuable role.
Free Online Readiness Tutorials
Whether this is your first course as an online student, or you're simply thinking about your future students, there are a few resources we'd like you to know about. The Online Education InitiativeLinks to an external site. (OEI) has produced a series of interactive tutorials designed specifically to support online learners, including tutorials on time management, online reading skills, and online communication. The tutorials are offered in a variety of modalities, including interactive videos, audio, and text, so students can choose the modality that works best for them.
If you like these tutorials, we're happy to share! The tutorials are part of the OEI's set of resources that are available to all CCC faculty, staff, and students. The tutorials are FREE to use, and do not require you to be part of the OEI course exchange or for your college to have adopted Canvas. These tutorials cover a wide range of topics online students may find helpful, as well as some additional interactive tools.
