Note About Setting-Up Your Course Notifications!
Notifications Tool
Notifications is the tool that sends these indicators via email and/or text message. They are sent at a frequency and method chosen by the user. It is a great help to students (and instructors too!) when we are relieved of the burden of having to decide how frequently to log in and check activity in our courses. Notifications are available to students and instructors, and each user can choose how to receive notifications from Canvas. That includes using an alternate email address, which might be great news for students who do not want their extant email addresses made irrelevant when they enroll at a college that provides them with one.
Recommended Notification Preferences
Please set your notification settings as soon as possible! This will help you keep on task, and up to date on course news. The following are recommended to turn on in your Notification Preferences:
- Due Date
- Course Content
- Announcements
- Grading
- Submission Comments
- Added to Conversation
- Conversation Message
- Calendar
- Administration Alerts
Notification Delivery Types
Notifications are sent as one of four delivery types: notify me right away, daily summary, weekly summary, or don't send. If you change a setting, the change is made immediately to your account.
You may be able to reply directly to email notifications outside of Canvas. Replies are updated in the Canvas Inbox. However, please be aware that attachments added as part of an external reply are not included with the message shown in Canvas.
Note: The Canvas by Instructure app supports setting notification preferences. However, setting preferences inside the app will override preferences in the browser version of Canvas, and daily and weekly preferences are not supported.
