Customizing Quest
Some schools have chosen to chunk the Quest Workshop into pieces and create 2-3 Canvas course shells to target specific audiences. Folks who create separate Canvas shells for each population have more flexibility connecting prospective and new online students to the resources they need to get ready for their first online course while not overwhelming them with too much information. The Experienced Online Student Pathway is beneficial for all students and best used as alternative materials when you are addressing the needs of a group of students in academic courses when some of the students are new to online learning and others have successfully completed online courses. These Canvas import files support that approach:
Modules 1-2 - Prospective Online Students - contains SmarterMeasure and Overview of Online Learning Module (good for individual or group counseling and Orientation to College/FYE/Matriculation Orientations - helps students decide whether online learning is right for them) Link to Prospective Online Student File Download Link to Prospective Online Student File
Modules 1-4 - Novice Online Student Pathways (good for schools who want student to target students new to online learning only) Link to Novice Online Student Only File

Modules 4-9 - Experienced Online Student Pathway (good for schools who want to more clearly send the message that successful, experienced online students do not need to complete Modules 1-3, but who want to provide a resource that will improve online success - highlighting Module 4 - Becoming a Successful Online Learner. Modules 5-9 are great student support resources, but are targeted to the needs of all learners. Link to Experienced Online Student Only File

Here is an example of a locally customized Quest for Online Success Workshop (good for schools who have the time to customize the generic Quest course with local resources - thank you MPC):
- Module 0 is a Welcome and Introduction to Canvas
- Incorporates a badging application (Canvabadges)
- Includes local materials to replace the generic materials included in the generic OEI Quest course
Here is a link to this option: Link to Localized Example file Download Link to Localized Example file (both pathways)
*If you decide to use all the improvements that are part of this example, you will want to use your own school's resources (rather than MPC) and you will have to create a Canvabadge account for your school. Here is a 5 minute tutorial about how to use CanvaBadges https://www.canvabadges.org/ Links to an external site.
The benefit of using this Canvas import file is that you can easily identify places where you will want to insert your school's resources.
In all cases, you will have to update your SmarterMeasure LTI (use credentials from previous Quest course or ask OEI to resend them to you).

Use the following Import file to delivering the full program Quest Online Success Workshop to students from within a single Canvas course shell:
This includes Novice and Experienced Online Student Pathways (good for schools who want students to be exposed to all the Readiness for Online Learning materials) - Link to Generic file

*In all cases, you will have to update your SmarterMeasure LTI credentials for every new import and you will have to customize the getting started materials for your school.
