Quest with SmarterMeasure for all CCC online students.
We have communicated with SPOCs and LMS administrators at the 24 pilot schools. 16 of you are all set to deliver Quest with SmarterMeasure not only to your students taking OEI pilot courses, but in some cases to all of your prospective or currently enrolled online students. Bravo.
For the other pilot schools, please let Anita know if you have any questions. Here are answers to a few questions that came up in the last few weeks:
- For this first term, please use one Quest in Canvas shell for all online students. We will evaluate this decision for next term as we know there are advantages and disadvantages to this approach. We also realize a few of you are creating sections. That is also fine as it will make for a richer discussion about the pros and cons of each option.
- Please use this link to find the revised Quest content https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bbe807xynunxugx/AAB4LcvE4-2k5fwnOGsudtCZa?dl=0 Links to an external site.
- Quest in Canvas may be useful for hybrid courses, but not those who are simply using a LMS course shell as a repository for course materials. We think of that as a web-enhanced, not hybrid course.
- Please remember to put Bonnie and Anita in the course with instructor roles.
If you have schools in your district that are wondering when Quest with SmarterMeasure will become available to them, tell them to look for an email from Bonnie and Anita today.
Hears to improving student success with a common course management system, well designed and taught online courses, and outstanding online student services! Go OEI!!!

As a result of the assessment of online readiness RPF process, OEI has selected the SmarterMeasure Learning Readiness Indicator to be made available through Quest in Canvas. For at least one year, the OEI will support usage of SmarterMeasure within the Quest program for all interested CCCs.
For the 24 pilot schools, OEI will continue to support your usage of SmarterMeasure inside Quest not only for students registered for OEI courses as we have been doing since spring 15, but now for all prospective and currently enrolled online students. Details can be found in an email from Anita Crawley sent on Thursday.
As per that email, there are been significant changes to the Quest Workshop and you will need to import the content into a new Canvas shell.
Here are the major changes:
- Our latest version of the Quest tutorials fully utilizes the capabilities of HTML5 media and makes them accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. This change should be transparent because they are linked from the same site as always http://apps.3cmediasolutions.org/oei/ Links to an external site.
- We have reformatted the Quest homepage and delivery of content to make it clearer which resources are for students new to online students. Our RP report indicated that while all students found the Becoming Effective Online Students module was the most helpful, far too many experienced online students were completing all the modules rather than just the ones in the Experienced Student Pathway. All students have access to all materials and are encouraged to use them throughout the term.
- The feedback surveys have been streamlined and have new links that we will use for the 16/17 school year.
We have held back release of Quest for fall because these changes have just been finalized this week. Please connect students to Quest as soon as possible. Send any questions to Anita Crawley.
