Detailed Instructions for Counselors wanting to use Quest

Step 1 - Contact the Readiness Lead at your school Karen Oeh (koeh@ccconlineed.org)

 to get the name or to find out if your school has adopted Quest)

Step 2 - Ask your Readiness Lead to use the latest Prospective Online Student Quest file to create a Quest for Counselors Course

This file contains SmarterMeasure and Overview of Online Learning Module (good for individual or group counseling and Orientation to College/FYE/Matriculation Orientations - helps students decide whether online learning is right for them)

Step 3 - Follow the instructions for creating Quest in Canvas

  1. Download the Quest file to your computer 
  2. Go into your instance of Canvas and create and name the course Quest for Counselors
  3. Import the content into a new course shell by going to Settings, Import Content into this Course; Content Type is Canvas Course Export Package.
  4. You will have 1 issue – SmarterMeasure LTI.

Step 4 - Updating the SmarterMeasure LTI

  1. Enter your newly created Quest course
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Go to Apps
  4. Select and add the SmarterMeasure App
  5. Select the gear drop down for SmarterMeasure
  6. Select edit
  7. Copy the credentials provided for your school from another Quest course 
  8. Select the Submit button.

Step 5 - Allowing self-enrollment (the best option for making Quest available to students "on-the-fly."

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Course Details tab
  3. Scroll to the bottom
  4. Select more options
  5. Make sure first option is selected “Let students self-enroll by sharing with them a secret URL or code
  6. This will generate a code and URL
  7. Provide self-enrollment instructions including code and url to your students so they can complete the Quest workshop before the beginning of the semester

*If you have trouble finding the self-enroll option, check admin settings to allow self-enrollment "For manually created courses"
