How to Caption Videos that You Own

If you have created a video, there are several methods to captioning your video:

YouTube
YouTube is a free video-sharing service where users can watch, like, share, comment and upload their own videos. The video service can be accessed on PCs, laptops, tablets and via mobile phones. YouTube's auto-generated software is one of the best free captioning platforms, and has undergone many iterations. Although YouTube's captioning features are much more sophisticated than it was five years ago, it still needs a human touch to review the captions for accuracy.

Different Ways to Caption in YouTube
- Use the script/transcript you've created to transcribe and auto-sync your captions to your video. This process may take a couple of minutes to 72 hours.
- You can leverage YouTube's auto-generated captioning.
- You can also manually create captions for your video as well.
DECT Grant
The Distance Education Captioning and Transcription (DECT) Links to an external site. program represents a commitment by the California Community Colleges to expand access to distance education to all students. Further, DECT provides a means for colleges to promote faculty innovation in the use of audio, video, and multi-media content in distance learning classes.
The system's substantial support for DECT is also a recognition that distance learning is the fastest-growing segment of CCC enrollment. Funding has been authorized by the CCC Chancellor's Office to aid California Community Colleges in improving their capacity to serve disabled student populations and, in some instances, the general public, by ensuring the accessibility of audio/video information.
