COVID Warriors

Denise Indermuehle, Professor of Nursing, Riverside City College

Theresa Cicci, Director of Nursing, Victor Valley College

Veronica Arrowood, Grants Coordinator, Crafton Hills College

Project:

The dilemma is, how do we transition from being on campus during the COVID pandemic to staying on campus afterward, as the campuses open to all employees and the community?  Our group researched the CDC, CDPH, SB and Riverside County DPH and internet search on healthcare recommendations.  All regulations we looked at were based on the CDC standards.  They have set the standards during the pandemic of how we were to handle on campus students and employees, office and in classroom standards as well.

Active Avengers

Project:

This project is to assist educators in building active learning modules for any subject. These modules use an online format called “nearpod” to make escape rooms that allow students to progress through patient scenarios and quizzes to move through the care of the patient. We have also include a website that allows you to make groups with your students that are balanced and which will allow for a more even spread of students at different levels in your class to work together.

The De-Stressors

Derek Copple, Director of CNA and Phlebotomy, Palo Verde College

Lee Nelson, Professor, Riverside City College

Sandra Bermudez, Faculty, Chaffey College

Project:

Stress is an inevitable part of life and effects everyone, especially, during the current pandemic. Nursing students are particularly vulnerable to the effects of stress due to intense academic and clinical requirements of nursing school. The 30:3 Stretch Method uses a long rubber band, The Theraband, to have nursing students preform 3 minutes of stretching exercises for every 30 minutes of class or study to increase a student’s health and wellbeing. This DE-stressing tool is highly portable and can be used in any situation. Stretching using the Theraband will help to increase the self-esteem, self-worth and selfcare of students, helping them to succeed in their studies. Stress triggers the fight or flight response and can cause a multiple of symptoms i.e., exhaustion, increased anxiety, insomnia, worry, anger, headache, and agitation. When students learn to fight back or resist stress by using the stretch bands for 3 minutes every 30 minutes of study, their bodies will feel better. Students need to use the ABCs to DE-stress. They need to ALWAYS allow themselves 3 minutes of self-care, BREATHE while stretching, and CIRCULATE the stress out of their body.  Students will recover from the effects of stress and are able to study effectively again.

Language Equity Crusaders

Barbara Jordan, Director, CNA Program, College of the Desert

Tammy Vant Hul, Dean, School of Nursing, Riverside City College

Theresa Becker, Associate Dean of Health Sciences, Palo Verde College

Project:

This project is a self-paced course to provide an introduction to closing the language equity gap some educators may or may not experience. This course discusses why there may be a gap, methods to determine student needs, as well as best practices and resources to close the gap. The course is not meant to be a total summation for narrowing or closing the gap, but to make you, the educator, aware of its existence.
