Creating Accessible Math in Word
Enter math into an MS Word document with MathType
By starting in Word, a student or staff member can quickly create the following file types:
- Accessible Word Documents (for screen reader users)
-
Math content for Canvas pages
-
ePub files (for mobile-friendly access)
-
HTML pages with MathJax (for web accessibility)
-
Nemeth Braille (for tactile math reading)
-
Large Print (for low-vision users)
MathType vs. Word Equation Editor
Choosing the right tool depends on the type of file you need to create. If you're making an ePub, the Word Equation Editor is fine. For other formats like HTML, Braille, or Canvas pages, use MathType because it creates MathML, which works better with assistive technology.
