4. Share with your students - Your Turn

Share Time!

Take some time to try out either the auto or manual embed steps in one of your Canvas courses. Once you master this step, you'll have the same skills needed to embed any YouTube video with accurate captions into your course.

How to search for brief, captioned videos on YouTube:

YouTube is a goldmine for existing video resources for your course. Using your subject matter expertise, you can filter videos to find those that are credible. And if you use the YouTube Filter option as you search, you can also target brief videos that are also captioned! You will need to vet each one for the accuracy of the captions, however.

  1. Go to YouTube Links to an external site.
  2. Enter your keywords into the search box at the top
  3. Click the search icon
  4. At the top right of your results, select Filter
  5. Under Duration, select Short (< 4 minutes)
  6. Select Filter again
  7. Under Features, select Subtitles/CC
Your selections should look like this:
YouTube Filter interface showing Duration: Short and Features: Subtitles/CC selected.

  8. Click the Search icon at the top of the page.
  9. Your newly filtered results will be displayed.
  10. Examine the videos. If you find one you'd like to embed in your Canvas course, follow the same steps on the preceding page.

Let's keep going...
