The Humanizing Gallery
Let's take a peek at some additional examples of brief, imperfect videos from real online instructors to get you excited about humanizing your online course. As you will see, humanized videos aren't polished and perfect. They're real ... just like you.

Kolleen Kalt, Cerritos College: "I teach Freshman Composition, and I've started giving a lot of video feedback for drafts. Students LOVE it and I feel that my comments come across a lot better when I say them instead of write them (or may students don't read the written comments?). This first video is a response to a student who revealed to me that she had experienced some trauma. The issue has been resolved, so there wasn't a need to connect her to services, so this video is me providing some empathy while also giving essay feedback. I'm also sick and coughing in it, so it's very 'human!'"English Composition

Alexis Litzsky, Community College of San Francisco: "The video I chose to share is something new I started doing after completing my @ONE humanizing class. I have students complete a knowledge survey (via a google form) and then take some of the highlights and questions and put them into a video. It gives me an opportunity to share information about the students with each, and answer some of their questions about my teaching and the class. I've gotten quite a bit of positive feedback from students about this video. They really appreciate seeing the dynamic presentation of the information and feel like they get to know me better, which is certainly the point! :) " Communication Studies

Lauren Wade, San Diego Mesa College, "Love what it [humanizing] has done for my classes. My students are really enjoying my accounting classes now that I've humanized them. It [the @ONE Humanizing course] was probably the most useful [professional development] course I have ever taken."Financial Accounting

Nicki Trahan, City College of San Francisco, "My audience is ESL students; without the humanizing element, I would never be able to retain these students in an online class. I am eternally grateful for what I learned in this [humanizing] class last year. This video isn't an extremely creative one, but it's a big deal for me because until I took this class I was very shy about being on camera. But I now make them even for my face-to-face classes without giving it a second thought."English Language
