A5 - Unit Chunking
ALIGNED: Content is meaningfully segmented into distinct units or modules to aid learning.
Unit-level chunking works hand-in-hand with clear navigation. Segmenting content in a consistent manner allows students to navigate easily through the material in a way that supports achieving the learning objectives. The use of modules is the easiest and best way to achieve unit-level chunking in Canvas. Modules should have consistent naming conventions and sequencing, and may employ text headers or numbering to more visibly display the structure.
As this schematic shows, the Canvas Module structure allows you to organize your content into visibly distinct units.
The use of Text Headers within a module allows for sub-sections. Indenting items within a sub-section creates another visual cue to the organization of the material.
NOTE: Be aware, students will only see the text headings when in Module view, not when "nexting" through the pages so be sure any important information included in text headings is also included on a module page as well.

What to Look For
Each instructor may define what constitutes a unit differently, but it should be clear to students where one unit ends and another begins, even if "nexting" through the course content. This may mean overview/summary pages are used to indicate the beginning and ending of each unit (though they are not required for alignment). Module and page names can help to make the organizational strategy clear.
