C7 - Feedback
ALIGNED: The course includes a clear description of how meaningful, timely feedback on assessments will be provided.
Feedback is, arguably, the whole point of any assessment. Without feedback from you—the subject matter expert—students are pretty much left to figure out on their own how they’re doing. And that’s a recipe for confusion!
This rubric criterion is not about whether you give feedback. (We're confident you do.) Because students often don't know what to expect in terms of feedback from you, this element is focused on making sure there is an explanation for students of when, where and how they will receive feedback. Those new to Canvas may not know how to access the feedback in their Gradebook so it's good to include a resource (Canvas Guides are perfect!) for that.
There is a Feedback section built into the Communications template (B2). Modify as desired.
Below is another example of how one might clarify these details for students (in your Syllabus, Orientation module or even in the assignment itself):
Grading Comments
I do my best to grade things within 72 hours after the due date. View grading comments by clicking on Grades in the course navigation menu and click on assignment comments Links to an external site. and rubric results Links to an external site..
Questions about grading comments/feedback should be directed to me via the Canvas Inbox. There is a Comment feature within assignment submissions but those can sometimes get buried, so an Inbox message is best to make sure I see it and you receive a quick response.
Where to Look
These guidelines are typically located in the syllabus, Orientation module and/or within assignment instructions.
What to Look For
A clearly articulated description, for the student, that explains how timely, meaningful feedback will be provided and how students can access it.
