Learning Level: Beginner

Estimated Duration: ~20 Minutes

The California Community Colleges Accessibility Center published the Goals and Milestones of the Accessibility Capability Maturity Model (ACMM) Links to an external site., which directs districts, colleges, and other CCC organizations to implement various accessibility processes. This course will support the implementation of the following milestones.

The (ACMM) consists of 89 milestones, each requiring a process. This guide will help you understand how to design the necessary processes.

Overview

The guide outlines a comprehensive approach to integrating accessibility into existing organizational processes. It emphasizes the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and utilizing low-tech and digital tools to facilitate process design.

It outlines a structured approach involving various stages: defining clear objectives, mapping the current state, analyzing gaps, setting goals for incorporating accessibility, designing the future state, assigning roles and responsibilities, allocating resources, and implementing and monitoring the new processes. Training, support, and effective communication are emphasized as crucial for successful implementation.

The goal is to ensure all processes are inclusive and accessible, aligning with the Accessibility Capability Maturity Model (ACMM) to enhance organizational efficiency and compliance with disability laws.

Some of the brief examples are from the Accessibility Process Design: Case Study, which focuses on a process to obtain accessibility documentation as part of a district procurement process.

Objectives

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Develop skills to collaborate effectively within a design team using visual aids while leveraging the insights and expertise of various stakeholders.
