Prompt:
This week, we have looked closely at David Dobbs's "The Science of Success" and Angela Duckworth's "The Key to Success? Grit" TEDTalk. For this discussion thread, I'd like you to consider the concepts of success and grit and their applications to The Other Wes Moore.
PART 1: Applying Dobbs and Duckworth to The Other Wes Moore
Using your reading notes on Dobbs's "The Science of Success" and Angela Duckworth's TEDTalk, write 2 paragraphs (of at least 100 words each) explaining how their concepts of success and grit can apply to the two Wes's.
Paragraph 1:
Write one paragraph connecting Dobbs to TOWM
Include one quote from TOWM and at least one quote from Dobbs's text
Thoroughly explain the connection
Paragraph 2:
Write a second paragraph connecting Duckworth to TOWM.
Include one quote from TOWM and at least one quote from Duckworth's text
Thoroughly explain the connection
Citation Format:
"quotation" (Dobbs).
"quotation" (Duckworth).
"quotation" (Moore 87).
PART 2: Responding to your peers
Respond to TWO of your peers’ discussion board responses, reflecting on your peers’ connections between the novel and Dobbs's and Duckworth's arguments. Your responses to your peers should total at least 100 words each. You will respond to BOTH of your peers' paragraphs. Respond to both paragraphs in the same reply.
To reply to a peer, click on the link below his or her thread "Reply." Respond to two peers who have yet to receive a response by a classmate. If everyone's response has been answered, respond to the ones with the least amount of responses. For example, if every student has at least one response, then respond to the students who only have one or two responses instead of those who have 5 or 6 already.
YOU MUST CREATE A THREAD BEFORE YOU CAN VIEW ANY OF YOUR PEERS’ RESPONSES.
Your assignment will be marked "Complete" if you:
- Post an initial response which answers every aspect of the prompt
- Reply to two peers' responses to both authors
- Write mostly error-free sentences
Remember, for Discussions, you must pass:
- 6 out of 9 for Grade Goal "C"
- 7 out of 9 for Grade Goal "B"
- 8 out of 9 for Grade Goal "A"
