Student Voice in Guided Pathways Inquiry

Inquiry

Incorporating student voice into Guided Pathways redesign involves intentionally learning directly from the student experience. A systematic process of listening to student voices is facilitated by clear objectives and questions to guide student disclosure. Below are a couple of common approaches by which the student voice can be captured for the betterment of a college’s Guided Pathways efforts.

Survey: a collection of questions (disseminated online, via social media, or in print) intended to gather student experience and perspective. This approach is ideal for gauging the scale of an issue and/or collecting relevant data to quantify the student experience.

Focus Group: can consist of small group discussion of 8 to 10 participants who share specific characteristics. This approach is ideal for exploratory questions, allowing participants to build on each others’ perspectives and experiences at the college.
