Adding Images to a Canvas Page

Images can be used in a course to illustrate a concept, emphasize a point, or simply to make a page more visually appealing. Canvas makes it easy to add images to your course.

When adding an image, it is important that you ensure that you are doing so in an accessible manner. Canvas makes it easy for you to either enter "alternative text" or to indicate that your image is decorative. A decorative image is one that is used for purely aesthetic purposes and gives no additional meaning to you content.  As marking an excess of images as decorative is not recommended, you should think carefully about the purpose of your added image before indicating that it is decorative.  If a brief explanation (less than a sentence) using alternative text (alt-text) is not sufficient to explain the meaning conveyed in your image, you'll need to provide that information in the text of your page. Adding an attribution, whether required or not, is also an effective Universal Design for Learning (UDL) practice. Many resources will provide an attribution that you can merely copy and paste below the image you are adding.
