Step 5: Add Communication Essentials
You are well underway with your site now. In this step, you will learn how to duplicate sections and move sections, which are helpful skills. Duplicating existing content is a fast and simple way to develop new sections of a page or create new pages.
Create a "How to get your questions answered" section
This section will cue your students that they are not alone in this experience and be sure they understand how you prefer to be contacted and when they should expect a response from you. Please watch this 3-minute video to see how to complete this step a new section titled
How to get your questions answered.
This section will include two columns, each with its own subheading: How to contact me and How to get your general questions answered (Please note: Double-click to create a text field in the second column).
Effective practices to keep in mind:
- Identify your preferred contact method (email, Canvas inbox, etc.).
- Include more than one option for students to communicate with you (for example, an asynchronous method (email, Canvas inbox) and a synchronous method (phone, Zoom).
- Specify your turnaround time so students have realistic expectations for you.
- Create a Q&A Discussion in Canvas for students to post general course-related questions. Encourage all students to answer those questions and be sure you are Subscribed to that discussion so you are notified when new posts are made.
